Q: I live in Fairburn, GA and I would like to maintain a green lawn all year long how can this be done?
A: If your lawn has warm season grass, you can top sow rye around October and grow the rye through the winter months. When the weather warms up late spring it will melt out on its own or you can use selective herbicides to completely eliminate the rye and enjoy the benefits of a healthy warm season lawn through the summer.
Q: I have sodded with Bethel Farms Celebration Bermuda and I had a beautiful lawn that has now started turning brown over the entire yard. I live in Middleburg, Florida. Any suggestions and yes, it's irrigated.
A: Check for worms. Mix up dishwashing liquid soap in a container and pour it in a spot in the lawn where the grass is beginning to turn brown. If worms or insects are present they should emerge for identification. Make sure your fertilizer program is up to date. Dollar spot is common in Bermuda lawns with low fertility.

Q: I have a Bermuda close to the house in a small area, the rest of the area is about 39,000 square ft. I would like to use Empire Zoysia instead of Bbermuda. Is that a problem?
A: The Zoysia and the Bermuda will compete. Both grasses utilize the same maintenance materials and mowing heights. It will be hard to keep them seperate unless some type of barrier is utilized. Perhaps pavers or a strip of bedding plants would serve the purpose.

Q: I have an issue with my Empire Zoysia lawn . Several large areas ( 4-6) square feet are browning and dying out. Looks like lack of water but I water on a regular schedule. I have treated for cinch bugs and grubs but the lawn isn't improving. The problem occurred over about a 30 to 60 day time period. Any suggestions?
A: Sounds like Rhizoctania, commonly called Brown Patch. Treat the area with Armada Fungicide as directed on the label. You will probably need to retreat in approximately 7 - 14 days.
Q: I have Flortam in my backyard that is recoving well from the recent freezes. My frontyard also Flortam and was heavily damaged and part is definitely dead. My sideyards get minimum sun and the Flortam had basically died out leaving me with two long weed patches. What would you recommend for my front and side yards? I'm in Orlando.
A: Sapphire would be great for your front yard, and Seville will work good on the side.
Q: I live in Tampa, FL and recently had Empire Zoyisa sod put in. When should I consider cutting the lawn for the first time?
A: You can mow when you can pull up on an individual piece of sod and feel that it has been rooted down. This may take two weeks or two months, depending on how well you maintain the lawn.
